Texas police admit ruling gunman inactive was ‘the wrong decision’
Officials have admitted to critical delays in the law enforcement response to the massacre of 19 children and two teachers at an elementary school in Texas.
Police are facing growing criticism for their handling of the tragedy at Robb Elementary School on Tuesday, with accusations they did not move in fast enough to tackle lone gunman Salvador Ramos.
Steven McCraw, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, said officers did not breach a classroom door for more than an hour after initially arriving on Tuesday.
Authorities falsely believed the gunman was “barricaded” and no longer an active shooter threat, despite pleas and phone calls from terrified schoolchildren inside their classrooms.
It comes as hundreds of people gathered in Houston on Friday to protest the National Rifle Association’s annual conference, where Senator Ted Cruz and former president Donald Trump addressed the gun rights lobby group and claimed their political opponents are ‘exploiting’ the tragedy.
Meanwhile the killer’s mother has begged the victims of her son’s killings for forgiveness, but said Ramos ‘had his reasons’ for doing what he did.
Senator blames ‘wokeness’ for rise in school shootings
A Republican senator offered up a theory for why he believes school shootings, like the one in Texas that left 19 children and two teachers dead this week, are on the rise: “wokeness” and “liberal indoctrination”.
Wisconsin Sen Ron Johnson provided the controversial take during an interview with Fox Business Network on Thursday, after the host asked, in light of this week’s devastating shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, if stiffer background checks would be a solution for preventing this kind of mass slaughter.
The solution to school shootings, Sen Johnson argued, won’t be found in gun reform legislation but rather in “stronger families” and “more supportive communities”.
“We stopped teaching values in so many of our schools. Now we’re teaching ‘wokeness’. We’re indoctrinating our children with things like CRT. Telling some children that they’re not equal to others and they’re the cause of people’s problems. There’s a sickness.”

Senator Ted Cruz, one of the few remaining politicians who didn’t drop out ahead of the National Rifle Association in Texas this weekend, was confronted by an angry gun control activist at a dinner in Houston following his speech on Friday.
“19 children died! That’s on your hands! Ted Cruz, that’s on your hands!” said the man, identified as Benjamin Hernandez, as he was pulled out of the restaurant by his shoulders by security on Friday night.
A political activist group in Houston shared a separate video, which shows the earlier part of the pair’s interaction. Indivisible Houston Board Member…
